ARTIST COMMENTS

Concept

I inherited a copy of my great-grandmother’s travel diary. She and my grandfather traveled across the U.S. from Oregon to buy livestock for their ranch. It was during the Depression and she chronicled the extreme poverty they saw during their trip. The movement of the falling rocks represent their movement across the country in their 1930s Ford truck and the heaviness of the suffering they experienced.

Technique

I took pieces of the diary and printed them on Rives BFK then made the encaustic monoprints.
